My name is Scott and my goal is simple:
I want to connect people to nature by inspiring you to attract more birds, animals, and wildlife to your yard.

00:11
Sound #1: “Conk-la-ree!”
The song of a male Red-winged Blackbird sounds like “conk-la-ree" or “o-ka-lee.”
It’s a classic sound that is common to hear in wetlands across North America.
The song starts with an abrupt note, which then turns into a musical trill.
Look for males singing this song from a high perch.
While making this sound, they lean forward, droop their wings, spread their tail feathers, and fluff out their bright should patches.
00:59
Sound #2: “check” or “chip” contact call
These contact calls are made by both males and females. You can hear these sounds year-round.
It is used for many situations, such as staying in contact with each other, during feeding, and while flying.
01:31
Sound #3: “chak chak chak”
If you walk through a marsh or wetland, it’s common to hear this alarm call.
This sound is a fast, scolding “chak chak chak.”
It's commonly made by females while guarding their nest.
01:51
Sound #4: “jeer”
This call sounds like a downward, slurred whistle.
It’s an alarm call given by males.
Listen for it the next time you enter a wetland area. “Watch out, here comes a human!”
Have you heard a Red-winged Blackbird before? If so, where do you live and what type of habitat was it located?

Great Horned Owl Sounds and Calls - Have you heard this owl hooting before?
Hearing red wings always reminds me of fishing with my granddaddy on the Alabama River. They loved to be in the fields feeding next to the river. ❤
All 3. Have a few different woodpeckers in my area. I have a feeder for them holds 2 cakes. ❤
My squirrels spend less time maybe 10 minutes instead of a hour but they still eat it. Found birds eat less to.
located Spanish Fort AL in a subdivision they were here last year disappeared and are now back. I have many pictures as they sit out my kitchen window on my satellite dish. I also see them swooping between and around houses.
I have heard these calls very often in northeast PA. I, too, thought it was an owl call originally.
Had one yesterday here in McMinnville TN ❤ Loves the Black Sunflower seeds we put out 😊
I have a squirrel I feed everyday in my backyard. I call him Mr. Big Balls because they are so big he drags them on the patio when he walks around. He could have easily killed that little hawk. He's the squirrel version of the rabbit from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I don't go in the backyard when he's out there.
Interesting bird. Would be nice if one stopped by the backyard.
Absolutely Gorgeous ❤
I think this what I’m hearing in Central/Western Massachusetts.
I think this what I’m hearing in Central/Western Massachusetts.
Chapel Hill, NC
This morning I was out doing yard work and I heard this high pitched call. When I looked up, I saw 2 bald eagles flying right over my property. Live in Easton, CT at Blue Button Farm.
We have more this year than last year. Eastern Plains of Colorado near Limon Co. just love them. They do get a little testy with the sparrows competing for food and love to sit in the bird bath
Yes over heard them I'm an avid bird watcher❤❤❤
I'm in Pennsylvania and see/hear them everyday. My mother has several that like to hangout in her pine trees. Few evenings ago we saw a juvenile playing with his supper (mouse) and yesterday we found a dead hawk near our driveway. No obvious injuries, we called the game commission and was directed how to dispose of it. We're thinking maybe the mouse has gotten into some poison? Seemed a bit sad, such a beautiful bird, sadder when we hear his family calling out for him
I saw my first one this morning on my walk. He was absolutely stunning-much more vibrant than the pictures. Gorgeous!
Lily pond New Hampshire not long ago. There would be hundreds of these birds. People Would come From all over to take pictures now You're lucky to say 10.
Sexual Dimorphism is big time with them. I've been attacked by them more than once bike riding also.
Thank you for posting their call. Glad to see them everywhere again. It seemed to me awhile ago they were dwindling.
Same for Tampa! I see them again. 👍🏻
I have them around my thistle feeder. They love to eat the thistle on the ground. They're so pretty.
North Central Florida - inland. Usually only in the winter. Almost nonexistent in the spring and summer.
We have them in a reeded pond in our housing development in Bonney Lake, Wa
Just saw 2 in my backyard. 1 I believe is a juvenile. I'm in Pell City, Alabama. I'm playing your video sounds and one of the hawks responded to it. Cool
I hate these birds so much, I used to think they were cute until one started chirping right outside my window for hours every single day
Just saw two Coopers hawks carrying on for the last 30 minutes. East Central Missouri, suburbs of Saint Louis. I thought they were fighting, but its the mating ritual.
People wouldn’t let a rat run in their house, but they’re afraid to kill a squirrel squirrels are tree rats that’s the truth of it
Yup. I have one in my backyard. He’s crazy! 😅
Just heard one in Huntingdon PA today 🎉❤🎉
Pellet rifle
Great video thank you!
house sparrows built nests around my house, i am hearing them daily, cheerful singing, can be loud, saw 4 baby birds flew out of the nest , made one yt video, plan to do one more , interesting birds!
So many varieties of birds and amazing colors!
From east central Missouri......Bluebirds are ready to fledge, so have been running off a family of one adult and two juvenile barred owls from the nest box.......Started hearing sound #1 and thought it was a pileated woodpecker until my Merlin app identified it as a Cooper's hawk....Confirmed it with your video. Thanks.
north carolina mine went hoot hoot like normal then went hroooot
YES, clearly the squirrel escaped!👍
In Japan, CDs are used to scare away crows and other birds.
Yes. Has some battle wounds
NO SOUNDS AT ALL...BUT LOOKS LIKE A CROW
Hawks and eagles are just evil!
Thank you for the video we live in Mary Esther Florida in the panhandle and we have lots of red bellied Florida woodpeckers and we love their song
The Hummingbirds that ‘own’ my farm are delightful! But, extremely ‘territorial’!!;) I honestly think that they would take on ‘anything’!! SO BRAVE & a bit sassy!❤️❤️❤️
I got home from work last night during dusk. I heard an odd sound that I was unfamiliar with, and when I opened my hatch, I saw a small, thick bodied bird fly away from a perch right above my car. Curious if I actually saw an owl, I followed it to the next tree in the neighbors yard. There I saw the owl and 2 others. As I approached the tree closer to inspect, 2 of the owls flew into the next tree with the 3rd close behind and met 2 more! 5 screech owls!! I was amazed. Are these parents with young or rivals fighting for territory? This was June 11th in Indiana.
At first I thought we had a weird chicken in the neighborhood. Then when I saw one, I was amazed! They're so big! We had a couple that would hang around a lot. I was able to get some good photos of them. I was surprised at how close they let me get. Then they disappeared for a couple years. Just started hearing them again this spring, but now I've seen only one. I'm thinking it may have lost its mate. I'm in the Lake Tahoe, CA area. I'm going to play your video loud, & see if it brings any more around. Thanks, great video!
Southwest Ohio, I used to hear a similar hoot owl when I was a kid in South Western Pennsylvania. It would hoot 3 times and then 3 times again a little differently.
We have several at Fripp Island, SC.
We are at Fripp Island, SC. There’s an eagle nest pretty close to our home. We’ve seen him/her numerous times. Even witnessed a fight up in the tree with an egret where they both fell to the ground in front of us. We just heard him while sitting on the back porch.
Do you happen to have a video on your setup at 6 seconds into this video? I’m looking to build a homemade bird feeding station
Sanford North Carolina. At least two having a conversation please of diversity of hoots.
Currently watching 4 behind my house near Hocking Hills in ohio
